Product Overview

BM Hyal Injection is a sterile, viscoelastic solution of hyaluronic acid designed for intra-articular administration.
It helps relieve pain and improve joint mobility in patients with knee osteoarthritis or periarthritis of the shoulder by supplementing the synovial fluid and protecting the cartilage.

Indications

  • Knee osteoarthritis

  • Periarthritis of the shoulder

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: Inject one vial (one pre-filled syringe) into the affected joint once a week for 3 consecutive weeks.

  • The dosage and frequency can be adjusted by the physician depending on the patient’s condition and response.

  • Administer intra-articularly into the knee or shoulder joint cavity under strict aseptic conditions.

  • If no improvement is observed after three injections, treatment should be discontinued.

Important Notes

Because BM Hyal is administered directly into the joint, it must be performed under strict aseptic technique by a healthcare professional.

Precautions

Contraindications

Do not administer to:

  • Patients with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or any component of the formulation.

Use with Caution in:

  • Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other medications.

  • Patients with liver disorders or a history thereof (cases of elevated AST/ALT have been reported).

  • Patients with skin disease or infection at the injection site.

Adverse Reactions

Serious

  • Shock: Rare but possible. Patients should be monitored closely during and after the procedure. Discontinue immediately if symptoms occur and provide appropriate treatment.

Others

  • Hypersensitivity: Facial or eyelid edema, facial flushing, rash, urticaria, pruritus.

  • Injection site reactions: Transient pain, swelling, mild effusion, redness, warmth, severe localized pressure sensation.

  • Others: Nausea, vomiting, fever.

General Precautions

  • If the joint has severe inflammation due to osteoarthritis, treat the inflammation first before administering BM Hyal.

  • To avoid exacerbating local pain, advise the patient to rest the joint after injection.

  • Ensure the injection is properly delivered into the joint cavity to prevent extra-articular pain.

  • Do not inject into blood vessels or use for ophthalmic purposes.

  • Avoid contact with disinfectants containing benzalkonium chloride, quaternary ammonium salts, or chlorhexidine as precipitation may occur.

Special Populations

  • Pregnancy & Lactation: Animal studies did not show teratogenic effects, but use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Hyaluronic acid may pass into breast milk; breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment.

  • Children: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

  • Elderly: Use with caution as physiological functions may be reduced.

Administration Notes

  • Use a 22–23G needle for injection.

  • If joint effusion is present, aspirate the fluid before injection.

  • Administer strictly intra-articularly — not intravenously or subcutaneously.

  • If no symptom improvement is observed after three injections, discontinue treatment.
