Strong UV Rays & Burning Skin… What Should You Do?

Strong UV Rays & Burning Skin… What Should You Do?

Lately, the weather’s getting hotter, isn’t it?

As sunlight becomes more intense and UV levels rise, our skin becomes more vulnerable to irritation.
Especially during long hours in the sun, our skin may react with sun allergies or sunburns.

Today, let’s take a closer look at what these two reactions are, how to treat them, and—most importantly—how to prevent them!

What Is a Sun Allergy?

A sun allergy is when your immune system overreacts to UV rays.

This reaction causes symptoms like stinging, rashes, itching, and swelling—especially on

exposed areas like the face, arms, and legs.

It’s more common in people with fair skin, and repeated UV exposure can make symptoms worse, potentially leading to pigmentation or even dermatitis.

How to Treat It

  • Take antihistamines (like cetirizine) to calm the allergic response.
  • For more severe symptoms, apply a steroid cream as well.
  • Keep the skin well-moisturized to strengthen the skin barrier.

What Is Sunburn?

Sunburn is a burn caused by UV exposure.
Symptoms usually appear 4 to 6 hours after being in the sun and peak around 12 to 24 hours later.

The skin becomes red, hot, painful, and in more severe cases, blisters may form.
You might even experience chills or nausea as systemic symptoms.

How to Treat It

  • Use a cold compress to reduce heat and soothe the skin.
  • Apply soothing gels or ointments with dexpanthenol (like Bepanthen).
  • If the skin starts to peel, do not force it off—instead, keep the area well-moisturized.
  • If the burn is severe, consult a doctor and follow standard burn treatment guidelines.

Prevention Is the Best Medicine

Whether it’s a sun allergy or sunburn, prevention is the key to protecting your skin.
Here are some simple but effective ways to shield your skin from harmful UV rays:

Easy UV Protection Tips:

  • Use a hat or sun umbrella when outdoors
  • Apply sunscreen thoroughly 20 minutes before going outside, and reapply every 2 hours
  • Moisturize regularly to build a stronger skin barrier

Under the hot summer sun, a few small habits can make a big difference for your skin. This

summer, let’s stay sun-safe and keep our skin healthy and glowing!
